vampirism and concealed identity?

Standard

An interesting statement (and an historically interesting essay):

“The basic belief of vampirism is the existence of a cold, unfeeling monster dedicated almost entirely to depriving a living being of life by either stealing his heart or sucking dry his life fluids. The short parasitic relationships are totally need-satisfying for the vampire. … The description of vampirism depicts primitive dynamics in all of us which ordinarily remain [-p.309] concealed.” (pp.308-309)
