Writer on writing

Standard

It may seem an aside, but there’s a lot of information about genre and generic conventions (and readers’ expectations and all that jazz) in the many blogs on ‘how to write’… I am just reading through Ilona Andrews’ website and thoroughly enjoying what she has (or they have?) to say on the topic…

For example, on the topic of research, she gives a number of excellent tips, then concludes: “if you are serious about writing, let go of the idea that your research will be correct 100% of the time or that everyone will accept your research as correct.  People argued with me about Russian language/history/customs before, because they’re read something in a book and they feel they know better.  I usually respond in Russian.  That shuts them right up:)” I’m in love with that response!
