Another question or two for the genre…


How is ‘pop culture’ used?

How is this urban cityscape imagined?

How many layers does the setting have? How easily do characters cross over between these layers? What political/social/genetic circumstances determine a character’s ability to cross between the layers? And how do these circumstances map back on to the ‘real’ world?

Which folktales, oral traditions, fantastic traditions etc are being drawn on? To what effect?

What social structures exist around the protagonist? What social institutions (family, school, work, streetlife, etc.)?
